A.M.
A.M. is your new favourite Toronto-based Electro-Funk Orchestra.
A.M. is an independent 9-piece band that serves up heaping plates of electro-acoustic party music to anyone within earshot.
A.M. started as a side project for Andrew Moore, who was playing in a rock band at the time. He shut himself in a room with a guitar, a computer, and some samples, just to see what would happen. He made some albums, did some music for theatre, TV, and independent films, and got featured on the radio and in the Globe & Mail, which made his mother very proud.
Later, A.M. grew into a trio, as friends Marty Smyth (organ, bass) and Drew Heinmiller (drums) signed on to help bring Moore’s computer nerd soundtrack to life. They began to play shows at Toronto clubs, to the delight of those who like to dance, groove, or lean against a wall and nod their head approvingly.
A.M. continued to expand to include a horn section – Chris Hunsburger (sax), Craig Thompson (trumpet), and Andrew Schroter (Trombone), and a vocals section – Meghan Roberts, Marion Newman, and Marcia Whitehead.
With such a talented line-up of musicians, A.M. is now considered to be Toronto’s premier electro-funk orchestra. Although, in fairness, they may be Toronto’s only electro-funk orchestra.
A.M.'s music ranges from chilled electro to high-energy dance to funk and back again. Straight-forward enough to make you want to dance, but interesting enough to make you come back. In short, A.M.'s music will make you dance and think at the same time, which is fun, but looks rather silly.
